A wonderful FREE way to improve your writing!

I have always been a fan of MFA programs, but I know that many people cannot afford to go or do not have the time.  A few months ago, I was doing some, “is an MFA right for me?” research, and I stumbled upon this awesome site:

DIY MFA

Aren’t the colors fun and inspiring?  One day, when I have more money to customize JessieLambertWrites.com, I’m going to have to refer back to diyMFA.com for inspiration.

Anyway, the site is a great place to start if you are looking to improve your writing.  You can sign up for free to receive a “starter kit”.  I signed up months ago, but haven’t made the time to begin the starter kit.  I have looked through it, though, and it is definitely worth your time.

The program focuses on three major aspects of many MFA programs:

  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Building community

It is also designed specifically for you because it is designed, for the most part, by you.  For example, the kit encourages you to read more in the genre you’re writing in.  So, YOU get to pick the books, unlike many (or most!) MFA programs out there.  For more information, check out how diyMFA works.

Is it better than spending 2-4 years writing in an MFA program?  I’d say no.  But, it is an awesome alternative or, if you do plan on getting your MFA, it could be a great way to work on your writing beforehand.

Will you get college credit?  Sorry, no.  It is not a “real” MFA program, but it is a free way to improve yourself!

Take a look and let me know what you think!  Once I catch up on my 90 Day Novel Challenge (I’m still a couple days behind!) I’m going to print my kit and get started on it.
