Internet scams are very prevalent in my (our?) line of work.  If you are a freelancer, you have probably had doubts about certain gigs.  Eventually, you may get involved with someone running a scam.  The question is, “What do I do now?”

Please keep in mind that getting scammed happens to everyone.  It really does.  Even when you follow all the right steps, you can still fall victim.  There is no need to blame yourself because scam artists are experts in deceit.  It is what they do for a living, after all.

If you have been scammed, please report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
